Can we trust Amazon reviews?

A recent article in The Guardian foregrounded some interesting also failures at Amazon reviews for major works have been merged, or bundled, with lower quality books.

For the record, this is a problem I can only imagine having as a problem. I am very happy if anyone is kind enough to write a review for one of my books. It helps me progress and grow as a writer, based on the feedback I am able to read and by encouraging others to read my novels and help me be a more successful writer.

Anyway, having a book title of the same name appears to have caused some confusion along the way. Sounds like an excellent reason for an author to have their own ISBN as well as using Amazon’s ASIN system.
